Club history:
The Chelmsford SKC is affiliated to the Karate Union of Great Britain (KUGB) which was formed in 1966 and has expanded and matured to become one of the largest Karate organisations in the world.
Chelmsford SKC was started in 1967 by Sensei Charles Naylor 7th Dan, who was also a founder member of the KUGB, and went on to become its Chairman after the death of Sensei Keinosuke Enoeda. He also became president of both the European Shotokan Karate-Do Association, and the World Shotokan Karate-Do Association.
Sadly Sensei Charles Naylor passed away in 2007, and it has been a tremendous loss not only to all at our club but throughout the world of Karate.
However, Sensei's dedication to Shotokan Karate remains strong in the Chelmsford Club, with his wife Sensei Dot Naylor 3rd Dan, daughter Sensei Jane Naylor-Jones 4th Dan and son in law Sensei Richard Naylor-Jones 4th Dan continuing the teaching methods they have learnt from one of the most respected instructors known in Shotokan.
There are also a number of high grade black belt instructors, many of whom are England squad members assisting with the teaching. Most have trained with the club since they started Karate, and all are agreed that it's one of the finest clubs to train at in the United Kingdom.
