Great News - Chelmsford's Lee Rifat and Campbell Ward pass their Black belts.
On Saturday 3 December, students from Chelmsford SKC traveled to Egham, Surrey, to train on the KUGB's Free Black and Brown Belt Course with Sensei Andy Sherry (9th Dan) and Sensei Frank Brennan (8th Dan). In addition, to the two Training sessions, there was also the important matter of the Dan Grade Examinations.
Chelmsford's duo of Lee Rifat and Campbell Ward had been in training for a number of months in a bid to meet the high technical standard expected to be a Black Belt. On the day they faced a tough test that stretched them both mentally and physically as they rose to the challenge.
Both Lee and Campbell passed the examination first time and were awarded Black belt by Sensei Andy Sherry, the first British Shotokan Black Belt in the UK.
Sensei Jane and Richard attended the training and the grading to support the duo. Sensei Richard said "Sensei Jane and I are both 5th Dan Black Belts and on each occasion to move to the next rank we have undergone these difficult and challenging tests. As a result we have a clear understanding of the pressure our students are under to pass. We are very proud of both Lee and Campbell who showed the correct martial spirit, strong attitude and correct level of techniques to meet the high standards required. Well done!"
