Chelmsford Karate Club supported ‘Time to Talk’ initiative to get people talking about Mental Health by holding a ‘free Karate Taster’ session open to the general public where people had the opportunity to train alongside Club members that included British, European and World Champions at Dovedale Sports Centre.

Amongst the large number of attendees the Club was very pleased to have three special guests support the event to help raise awareness of this important subject - Councillor Julia Jeapes, Lesley Bailey from InterAct Essex and John Scott, representing Councillor Stephanie Scott, Chelmsford City Council Champion for Disabled Children and Adults.

At the end of the free taster class Sensei Richard Naylor-Jones, Club Instructor and Active Essex All Together Ambassador for Disability Sport, invited our guest speakers to talk about the importance of mental health and encourage people to take time to talk with others especially if they see they are struggling.

The event closed with the opportunity for all those attending to take 'time to talk' with cake and refreshments provided by the Dovedale Sports Centre, The Oddfellows Arms and Club members.

Chelmsford Karate Club works hard to remove the stigma surrounding mental health and reinforces to its members the importance of looking after their mental health as well as their physical health. We are very proud to have Sensei Richard Kheder, a Mental Health Ambassador for the Karate Union of Great Britain. (KUGB) as part of our Club.
