Sensei Richard was invited back to Coventry University again to run a 6 hour Personal Safety and Self Defence Course over the past two weeks.
The course is designed for participants to increase their self awareness on personal safety, providing practical advice on how to avoid confrontation and if faced with no alternative to learn basic techniques on how to deal with confrontation.
Richard was supported by Josh Wilson who is the President of the Coventry University Karate Club and Anand Chauhan who will be new President for next academic year .
The course was well attended with a very enthusiastic group of participants who were keen to learn and also test Richard's knowledge by presenting different scenarios. Richard took the time to talk through how they could look to avoid the scenario from happening and if faced with no alternative gave a physical demonstration with the aid of Anand and Josh.
Feedback from the attendees about the course was very positive. Here are some of the comments:
"I've enjoyed the course", "I am feeling more confident and aware of threatening situations", "The course raised my awareness of personal safety", "the delivery method was very appropriate: respectful, comfortable and personal", "I liked how the 'common sense' ideas were reinforced" "knowing how to respond with the drills and the awareness training", "the course was excellent in particular practicing with a partner". "Reinforces the ideas of safety that we lose when we go about our everyday life"
