Full grading class with Sensei Andy Sherry (9th Dan) centre, together with Chelmsford Instructors Jane and Richard Naylor-Jones

Sensei Andy Sherry, Chief Instructor of the Karate Union of Great Britain (KUGB) is a long-time family friend and great supporter of our Club.

On Sunday 24th June, he came to Chelmsford to hold a Special Training Course and Kyu Grading Examination at Dovedale Sports Centre.  As always, we are very proud to host Sensei Sherry.   Sensei Sherry is very well known within the Karate World and as a result there were a large group of enthusiastic Karateka from KUGB clubs all over the South East of England and London in attendance.

Sensei Sherry  was the first Shotokan Black Belt in the UK and a phenomenal competitor in his day.  Ask anyone and they will tell you that, even at 75, his personal training regime is second to none, so his course was always going to be inspirational.

Black & Brown Belt Class with Sensei Sherry

First of all Sensei took the high grades through some advanced basics and kicks, followed by advanced kumite and kata Kanku Sho.    In the Kyu grade class Sensei concentrated on the grading requirements for each grade.

After two fantastic classes the scene was set for the grading where almost 60 people put themselves to the test under his watchful eye.

A fantastic day indeed.  Alas no photos as we were all training :-D.
