The article explains:

"It has been a remarkably successful few weeks for Chelmsford Shotokan Karate Club.   And among their many stars, one youngster has particularly stood out in competition.

Ten year-old Mia Hillsden is Grand Champion, winning the kata (set moves) and kumite (fighting events at both the Youth Nationals and the Southern Region Championships.

She also took part in the team events at both events, coming third in the team at the KUGB National Championships in Birmingham and first at both the regionals in Reading and nationals in Chesterfield alongside Aya Rainer and Teah Pope.

Mia was named most outstanding competitor after her efforts in Reading, and that is why we are nominating her for one of our Essex Chronicle Sports Awards 2013.
