Sensei Richard, as part of his continuous learning, has attended the Adult Mental Health First Aid Course and is now a Mental Health First Aider. The course teaches in depth skills for providing first aid to people experiencing mental health issues such as depression, anxiety disorders and psychosis.

As an All Together Ambassador for Active Essex and a Mental Health Charter Advocate for the Karate Union of Great Britain Richard says "it is important that we help raise awareness and the importance of Mental Health in sport.  The course has helped me to recognise the sign and symptoms of common mental health issue, provide help on a first aid basis and effectively guide someone towards the right support services.  I hope as more coaches obtain this qualification that people with Mental Health concerns will feel more comfortable to get active and take part in sport".
