On Sunday 19 October, Sensei Andy Sherry (9th Dan), Chief Instructor of the Karate Union of Great Britain (KUGB), traveled to Chelmsford to hold a Special Training Course and Kyu Grading Examination. This took place at Mildmay Sports Centre, Anglia Ruskin University, Chelmsford.
Sensei Sherry is famous within the Karate World and as a result there were nearly 90 enthusiastic Karateka in attendance for the two Training sessions. Amongst this group were Club Instructors and Students traveling from all over the South East of England. This included the following KUGB Clubs: Canterbury Christ Church, Ipswich Higashi, Makenki, Shin Gi Tai, Shiseikan, Stock, Sudbury and, of course, Chelmsford.

The day started with Sensei Sherry teaching the Black and Brown Belts. They were put through their paces covering Kihon, Advanced Kumite techniques and Katas: Bassai Dai and Bassai Sho.

Then this was immediately followed by a training session for All Grades from White belt through to Black belt. Many of the Brown and Black from the first Class took the opportunity to continue training and have an additional session with Sensei Sherry.

With the Kyu Grading to follow immediately after the Training, Sensei Sherry took the class through the Kyu Grade Syllabus to ensure everyone was fully prepared for their examination. The Black belts accordingly went through the Dan Grading Syllabus.

Immediately following the training sessions the Kyu Grading examination began. The Grading was well attended with 35 Students Grading from Ipswich Higashi, Shin Gi Tai, Sudbury and, of course, Chelmsford.
The grading was a great success so well done to everyone who participated. Also a big thank you to all those KUGB Clubs and their Students who traveled some distance to attend.
