The year kicked off with, from left to right, Mia Hillsden, Alex Lockett, Nick Nelson and Emma Burke selected onto 2019 KUGB England Squad.

Sensei Richard was on BBC Look East with his volunteering for Essex All Together supporting the Mencap launch of the 'Round the World Challenge'.

The Club held it's annual "Time to Talk" Event.
In attendance were special guests Councillor Julia Jeapes, Lesley Bailey (InterAct) & John Scott. As a result the Club was featured in the newspaper – Essex Chronicle Newspaper.
Chelmsford win three Golds at the Shotokan Tigers Competition & there was a report about our success in the Essex Chronicle.

Sensei Richard, Sensei Jane, Sensei Richard Kheder, Lisa Ironman, Jessica Steadman, Alex Lockett and Nick Nelson were selected onto the KUGB Central Kata Squad for 2019 to train with Sensei Frank Brennan (8th Dan).
As a result of Nick Nelson, and Alex Lockett being selected for the KUGB England Squad for the first time they along with Sensei Richard were interviewed by Glenn Speller on BBC Essex Sport, which you can listen to above.

We launched our series of Shotokan Tiger Katas on our Club's You Tube Channel.

Elaine Ellis passed her Nidan Black Belt Grading under Sensei Sherry (9th Dan) at the KUGB Dan Grading in Abingdon.
KUGB International Grand Slam – Alex Lockett, Nick Nelson and Mia Hillsden represented KUGB England. Alex gains Second place in Kata in the Under 18 male category - not bad for a 13 year old in his first international!

The Club hosted a Masterclass & Kyu Grading with Sensei Andy Sherry at Dovedale Sports Centre.

The Club held it's annual Mum’s train free for Mother’s Day- with lots of Mum's taking the opportunity to train alongside their children (of all ages!).

Alex Lockett became a Chelmsford Sports Ambassador.
Seven members attended the Spring Karate Course, a week long residential course in Paignton, Torbay. On the Thursday there was a Kata competition and in the Dan Grade category and Alexander Lockett takes first place and Nick Nelson came fourth.

The Club held a Special Training Course with Sensei Brennan at Writtle College, Chelmsford.
​
Sensei Richard Kheder was invited to officiate again at the Oxford versus Cambridge Varsity Match. KUGB Cambridge won!

The Club entered the KUGB British National Championships in Leicester– Medalists included:
2nd Team Kumite - Emma Burke, Lisa Ironman and Kelly Hodkinson & Megan Naylor-Jones (Reserve) - our highest placing in this event in our history.

Sensei Jane was interviewed by Dave Monk on BBC Essex about Knife Crime as we supported 'Knives Down, Gloves Up' in Chelmsford to help raise awareness and get more young people off the streets.

Sensei Richard was appointed Chair of the KUGB Southern Region at the KUGB Annual General Meeting.

Our Club featured on BBC TV Look East as part of 3030 Essex Campaign.

Sensei Richard was a Guest Editor for 3030 Essex campaign, encouraging people to get active with 30 days of activity during the month of June.

Seven Trophies at the Southern region Championships held at the K2 Crawley- six Golds at the Southern regions plus 38 medals & Alexander Lockett wins most outstanding competitor for the second year running. As a result the Club featured in the Essex Chronicle.

The Club held it's Annual Father’s Train free for Father’s Day.
At the KUGB British Youth Championships –Nick wins Bronze in Individual Kata and then alongside Alex Lockett & Layla Barrett wins Bronze in Team Kata.

Megan Naylor-Jones was featured in Canterbury Christ Church University news following her Gold, Silver and Bronze at Southern Regions

The Club celebrated five Black Belt passes in Bath! Matt England, Maia Barrett, Marley Barrett & Theo Barrett all passed Shodan & Catarina Ferreira passed Nidan.

Jessica Steadman was in Uganda doing voluntary work with Chelmsford County High School.

Megan Naylor-Jones travelled to Spain to teach our Spanish Chelmsford branch new Kata – Patricia Roza and Alicia Willis.

The Club were awarded their Mental Health Digital badge by Mental Health First Aid England.

Raquel Amaro selected to represent Portugal at the WSKA World Championships in Portugal in September.

The Club entered the KUGB British Shotokan Cup – there were some great performances and results with Raquel Amaro gaining Silver in Ladies Kata, Jamie Lottering in Bronze in Junior Male Kata and Mia Hillsden both Silver in Ladies Junior Kata and Bronze in Junior Kumite.

Sensei Richard was shortlisted for three awards at the Marvel of Mid Essex Awards 2019.

Sensei Jane and Richard were on International Duty at the WSKA World Championships in Portugal watching Raquel Amaro compete.

As the Club continues to grow we added an additional class at Anglia Ruskin University on Thursday for Beginners.

Joshua Newman was nominated for a National Charity Film Award for his personal story as a ‘Healthcare Hero’.
Sensei Richard was on Chelmsford Community Radio talking about the Club and how Karate can be positive for your Mental Health.
Fantastic results in the Shotokan Tigers Competition in South Woodham Ferrers winning six golds and reported in both the Woodham Focus and Essex Chronicle Newspapers

The Club entered the KUGB Student British Championships in Chesterfield. They came back with lots of medals including three titles - Team Kata - Megan Naylor-Jones, Nick Nelson and Romilly Pope, Female Dan Grade Kata - Catarina Ferreira and Male Dan Grade Kata - Nick Nelson.
The Club held the second Masterclass with Sensei Brennan this year at Writtle College, as well as a small Kyu Grading afterwards.

What a way to end the year!
It was a fantastic year and we would like to thank everyone involved: the students, our team of Instructors, parents, friends and family.
