Sy first started training at the London university karate club where Sensei Jane was a regular guest instructor and he graded under Sensei Charles Naylor to 1st Kyu.
After graduating he was unable to train due to work commitments so took up distance running instead. During this time he ran marathons all over the world and then decided to return to training in 2021.
Apprehensive after a 29 year break he really enjoyed being back in the dojo and has since passed his Shodan in 2022, his instructors qualification in 2023 and his Nidan in 2024
Sy is continuing his karate journey and enjoys training regularly attending the KUGB courses when he can and still runs regularly, taking part in many road race events throughout the year.
