Our Family Classes, also known as All Grades Classes, are for all ages and abilities within karate, from first-lesson beginners to elite athletes.
Many of our students say that training in an environment full of dedicated, hard-working karateka helps to motivate them to train to the best of their abilities.

Choosing a karate club is about far more than choosing somewhere to train.
It's about finding a club where you'll be encouraged, challenged and supported to become the best version of yourself, whatever your age or experience.
For nearly sixty years, that's exactly what we've been doing at Chelmsford Karate Club.

Nearly 60 Years of Karate in Chelmsford

Chelmsford Karate Club was founded in 1967 by Sensei Charles and Sensei Dot Naylor and is the longest-established karate club in Chelmsford.
From those early beginnings, the club has grown through generations of students and instructors, while remaining true to the traditional Shotokan karate and values on which it was founded.
Today, Chelmsford Karate Club is run by Sensei Jane Naylor-Jones (Charles and Dot's daughter) and her husband ,Richard, continuing what her parents began nearly sixty years ago.
Traditional Shotokan Karate
Chelmsford Karate Club teaches traditional Shotokan karate and has been affiliated to the Karate Union of Great Britain (KUGB) since its earliest years.
Being part of the KUGB gives our members access to nationally recognised gradings, courses and competitions, as well as opportunities to train with some of the most experienced instructors in British karate.
For us, traditional karate means maintaining high standards while helping every student progress at a pace that is right for them.

Experienced Instructors
The quality of your karate depends enormously on the quality of the people teaching you.
Our senior instructors have decades of experience and are supported by a team of highly qualified instructors, most of whom began their own karate journey at Chelmsford Karate Club.
Together, they bring experience from teaching, competition, refereeing and examining, while sharing the same aim: to help every student get the very best from their karate.
A Club for Everyone
Karate really can be a lifelong activity.
At Chelmsford Karate Club, we have members ranging from young children taking their first steps in karate to adults who have trained for decades.Children, teenagers and adults train with us for many different reasons, from confidence and fitness to competition, friendship or simply the enjoyment of learning something new.
Families can train alongside one another, while every student is encouraged to pursue the aspects of karate that matter most to them.
